The “Hypoallergenic” label
is meaningless.

With 50-60% of the world dealing with sensitive or allergic skin, and the term “hypoallergenic” left unregulated by any agency, something needed to be done. We are shocked by the fact that over 90% of personal care products marketed as hypoallergenic still have at least one major allergen.

Dr. Mehrotra’s patients commonly reacted to “hypoallergenic” products in the marketplace, often needing help in understanding which ingredients they should avoid. With such unreliable testing options for contact dermatitis, and with the only FDA-regulated test available having just a 20-30% sensitivity with outdated allergens, Dr. Mehrotra could not rely on testing to help understand her patients’ reactors. Besides that, most allergists and dermatologists often struggle with finding solutions for their patients beyond generic body cream and petroleum jelly, since the “hypoallergenic” label on products is so untrustworthy. This struggle led Dr. Mehrotra to create Evme.

The Evme team has meticulously identified and excluded thousands of potential allergens and irritants, using scientific research, decades of data, and clinical experience to design our own high-performance products and rigorously-tested formulas—rebuilt one ingredient at a time. We call our process the Evme Method™. With allergies rising and people allergic to so many different ingredients, it has become important to consider a broader set of potential allergens than before. It’s not enough to be slightly less allergenic than normal. We need to aim to be as close to sans-allergenic (without allergens) as we can.

All patients with sensitive or allergic skin could benefit from Evme. Over half the world has sensitive skin. This includes, but is not limited to, irritations and sensitivities due to irritants, allergens, and other underlying inflammatory conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, lupus, rosacea, and acne.

Patients with presumed contact dermatitis or facial eczema can also greatly benefit from Evme. When dealing with these conditions, it is important to rehydrate the skin, specifically helping to rebuild the skin barrier and use gentle ingredients that will not cause further reactions while the skin heals. In patients with eczema or contact dermatitis, epidermal barrier disruption can contribute to further symptomatology. We have several ingredients in the Evme line that specifically help with epidermal repair and hydration without extraneous added fillers that may irritate the skin further.

The term “hypoallergenic” has historically been poorly defined and has not been regulated by any agency. As an allergist, Dr. Mehrotra was frustrated with products that fell short on their “hypoallergenic” promises and felt the need to bring her allergy expertise into the Evme formulation process. Evme raises the bar on defining “hypoallergenic”, creating a much stricter definition of the term, aiming towards “sans-allergenic”. Our “No-No list” contains thousands of allergenic & irritating ingredients commonly found in personal care products. Evme has found proprietary replacements for reactive ingredients in classes like preservatives, emulsifiers, fillers, emollients, surfactants, etc. Evme has built high-performance products using multifunctional ingredients, removing all unnecessary fillers and extras.

Allergens and irritants can be found all the way to the sourcing and processing of ingredients. With the rise of “natural” ingredients in skincare, we continue to see allergies growing, as natural ingredients can be equally (and sometimes more) allergenic and irritating as synthetic ingredients.

Evme consciously sources its ingredients in a way that can be free of allergens without hidden reactors. This not only includes major food allergens like dairy, wheat, soy, eggs, nuts, coconut, seafood, sesame and many other known food allergens, but also numerous plant-based and naturally-sourced reactors.

Currently there are no major resources for people with contact dermatitis — if they don’t already know what they are reacting to. Our goal is to help educate patients about contact dermatitis and sensitive/irritated skin and give them the tools they will need to help navigate this issue. We know that physicians don’t always have unlimited time in their office to go through every detail with their patients. Let Evme do this for you!

With the growing trend of “clean” and “natural” products, there has been a surge of ingredients sourced from food. This can be a huge issue for the millions of people who deal with food allergies and sensitivities, which is unfortunately on the rise. As a result, we’ve excluded any ingredients sourced from major food allergens, including dairy, wheat, eggs, soy, nuts, seafood, coconut, sesame, and more! In fact, the only food sources we use are rice, sugarcane, potato, beet, and rapeseed—specifically because they’re rare causes of food allergies.

Our products don’t contain any animal by-products and we are proud to be vegan. All of our products are also cruelty-free.

As a Board-certified allergist, immunologist and pediatrician, our Founder and Formulator, Dr. Mehrotra, has dedicated herself to making products that are safe for teens and adults.
